Todd Rader + Amy Crews, Architecture Landscape Architecture, LLC, formed in 2000, is dedicated to creating designs that marry architecture and landscape. Our projects reflect the multidisciplinary nature of our training blending the disciplines to produce designs that span from the building interior to the landscape beyond. Our expertise is founded on wide experience gained through our own projects and as project architects and landscape architects and partners in a variety of firms over the last twenty years. We listen to our clients and are responsive and flexible approaching each new project with a fresh outlook. We are a design oriented firm that strives to create functional landscapes of strong character with an economy of gesture.
Our work spans a wide variety of project types and scales, crossing disciplinary boundaries ranging in scale from master plans to intimate private residences and gardens. Our clients include institutions, developers and private home owners. We have experience with the preservation and reuse of historic sites both public and private.
We have worked with institutional clients and with private developers to achieve rich landscapes that can stand up to public use. Many of our projects have included meetings and public hearings with the surrounding community.
We welcome the opportunity to work with other designers and do so on many projects. As landscape architects we are uniquely suited to understand and provide landscapes appropriate to another’s architectural vision. As architects, our work can be particularly responsive to unique landscape situations and to the settings designed by landscape architects.
We have prepared landscape master plans for Brown University, the Cincinnati Art Museum and the Lamont Earth Observatory. We have completed and are currently doing a large number of projects at Brown University including an assessment of the existing historic main campus landscape, the design of a new campus adjacent to the main campus and the design of landscapes for over a dozen buildings many of which are historically significant.
We have worked with numerous complex client groups and large consultant teams including the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts, and the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and the Elisabeth Morrow School in Englewood, New Jersey.
Our residential work includes landscapes for new communities including a community outside Prague in the Czech Republic; Landscapes for several large apartment buildings including extensive roof terraces; house and garden projects where we are both the building and landscape architect enabling a full merger of architecture and site; and many country gardens, urban yards, streetscapes and roof terraces.
In addition to Rader+Crews projects, we have extensive experience as Partners and Project Managers in other firms working with a wide range of clients including Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello in Charlottesville, Virginia, the Shaker Museum at Mount Lebanon, New York, the Gettysburg National Battlefield in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, Colby College in Waterville, Maine, the University of Oklahoma at Norman, Exeter Academy in New Hampshire, Northeastern University in Boston, Massachusetts, and Pratt Institute and the Kingsborough Community College, both in Brooklyn.
