This project, located on the upper west side of Manhattan, included the design of a front and back garden associated with a townhouse renovation.   The rear garden had a large area of stone paving where the owner could arrange furniture to accommodate a variety of activities.  A custom cedar fence provided a backdrop for edge plantings that included a Birch and Magnolia trees.  A wide stone stair composed of thick bluestone blocks provided a gracious transition to the garden level which was higher than the townhouse basement floor elevation.
