The construction of a new apartment building on the St. John the Divine campus required the relocation of the Cathedral’s rose garden. The garden is at the level of the Cathedral Close overlooking 110th Street thirty feet below.  We designed the garden for the new location, incorporating roses that were saved from the previous garden and adding mixed plantings more suitable to the site.  A flexible planting bed arrangement allows volunteer gardeners to maintain discrete areas while still forming a coherent whole.   Stone walks, walls and a trellis frame the garden and better relate it to the buildings of the Cathedral Close. The trellis incorporates a long bench and storage shed.
