At Todd Rader + Amy Crews Architecture, Landscape Architecture LLC we are dedicated to creating designs that marry architecture and landscape. Our projects reflect the multidisciplinary nature of our training, blending the disciplines to produce designs that span from the building interior to the landscape beyond.  Our expertise is founded on wide experience gained through our own projects and as project architects and landscape architects and partners in a variety of firms over the last twenty-five years.  We listen to our clients and are responsive and flexible approaching each new project with a fresh outlook.  We are a design oriented firm that strives to create functional landscapes of strong character with an economy of gesture.

WORK

Our work spans a wide variety of project types and scales ranging from master plans to intimate private residences and gardens. We have worked with institutional clients and with private developers to achieve rich landscapes that can stand up to public use. We have designed landscapes for large urban developments as well as new communities outside the city. Many of our projects have included meetings and public hearings with the surrounding community.

Being based in New York City, we have also created many landscapes in dense urban settings where open space is at a premium and every roof, balcony and light well is viewed as a landscape opportunity.  We have designed many roof terraces and landscapes on top of subsurface constraints.  Our city work includes many apartment building landscapes including landscapes for affordable housing.

We have prepared master plans for institutional clients including museums, universities, schools and botanic gardens.  We have also worked on numerous college campuses including multiple projects at Brown University in Providence, Rhode Island, projects at many State University of New York and City University of New York campuses and at private universities such as Rockefeller University in New York, New York.  We have provided landscapes for New York City public schools as well as private schools and have designed many unique playgrounds.

We have also completed many residential projects ranging from country estates to smaller scale townhouse gardens in the city.  We have designed landscapes for historic sites both public and private.

COLLABORATION

We welcome the opportunity to work with other designers and do so on many projects.  As landscape architects we are uniquely suited to understand and provide landscapes appropriate to another’s architectural vision.  As architects, our work can be particularly responsive to unique landscape situations and to the settings designed by landscape architects.
