The basement of this house underwent an extensive renovation including the installation of an exercise room, spa, massage room, game rooms, bar and media room. We were asked to design a sunken garden that would allow access directly into the basement and provide a landscape to view at the lower level.

We created a series of landscaped terraces bridged by a stone stair. The stair is flanked by a large stone wall and the scene is completed by a fountain set back into the wall at the base of the stair. A 12 foot wide sliding glass door opening into the exercise room frames the view and the fountain brings the sound of falling water to the rooms below and helps cool the space. The court is paved with round river stones creating a pebbly beach crossed by large stepping stone slabs.
